KUALA LUMPUR: Motorcyclists and pillion riders, beware.
Those who do not buckle up their helmets will be fined up to RM300. This is part of the blitz undertaken by the Transport Ministry in its effort to reduce deaths among motorcyclists.
Operations to check on the proper usage of helmets will be carried out in rural and semi-urban areas as ministry studies showed that majority of accidents involving motorcyclists took place at these locations.
Last year, 6,218 cases of fatal accidents were recorded, of which 60 per cent involved motorcyclists and pillion riders.
