Philippines: SC issues injunction orders vs. proposed toll hikes.

Section: General News - The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday effectively prevented the government from imposing a 12-percent value added tax (VAT) on all toll charges nationwide and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) from implementing a 250-percent with the issuance of two temporary restraining orders (TRO).

The proposed VAT and toll hike increases are supposed to be implemented on Monday (August 16).

The TROs were issued by Chief Justice Renato C. Corona.

This is the second time the Chief Justice exercised his TRO powers since he assumed office on May 17.

Last May 24, or exactly one week after his appointment, Corona issued a status quo ante order …
