City education leaders say a GBP1.5 million campaign to improve literacy is making a difference.

Whatever It Takes was launched last October to tackle poor reading standards in Leicester.

The city council, teaching unions, and businesses helped form the campaign.

Cash was given to help schools. Activities so far have included sessions with top authors and a survey into the reading habits of Leicester's youngsters.

Soar Valley College is one school where children are being encouraged to spend more time reading. Next term pupils will visit the Tigers' Learning …
