Shantha Sinha, chairperson of the newly constituted National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, is known for her pioneering work on child rights. In recognition of her efforts, she was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 2003. She is the founder-secretary of the Andhra Pradesh-based MV Foundation which has withdrawn over 400, 000 children from work and put them into schools. She is also professor of political science at the University of Hyderabad. In an interview to RANJEETS JAMWAL, she spoke on various issues concerning corporal punishment and measures to check it.
