ANGLO PLATINUM Light in the tunnel Anglo Platinum expects not only to meet but to exceed the mining charter's requirement of 26% empowerment by 2014, despite a lengthy delay in reaching the first milestone.

The group announced this week that it had received letters converting its old-order mining rights to new-order rights, about seven years after it had submitted its first application and more than two years after its parent company, Anglo American, said AngloPlat had secured all its rights subject to completion of two empowerment deals.

Most of SA's other large mining groups secured their conversions over a year ago. The route …
