Section: General News - Senator Edgardo Angara on Wednesday expressed optimism that the next Senate president will be elected before the 15th Congress opens on July 26.

The Senate is a sacred institution, whose leadership cannot be left empty, Angara said in reaction to speculations of a possible vacuum of power in the Senate when President Benigno Aquino III delivers his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.

The issue of a new Senate President, Angara clarified, is also separate from the question of who will preside over the opening of the 15th Congress.
