The sight of German Chancellor Angela Merkel jumping up and down the aisles of the executive box at the Cape Town stadium, celebrating every one of the four goals against Argentina with the exuberance of a teenage girl on her maiden date short-circuited my mind.

She kissed FIFA president Sepp Blatter and her South African counterpart Jacob Zuma, none of whom seemed to share her excitement. The Ugandan in me found it all bemusing, overboard, even demeaning.

Somehow, I can't see our own president traveling outside of these borders purposely to watch Uganda play football, much less jump up the aisles celebrating a Cranes goal.

Surely he has "more important" things to do.
