NEARLY GBP2.5 million of tax payers' money was spent on taxi fares for Bristol City Council staff in the last year.

The total figure of GBP2,490,093 for the 12 months from April last year to the end of this March was revealed at last night's full meeting of the council.

It is the equivalent of spending about GBP6,822 every day on cabs for an entire year, or GBP284 every hour.

The journeys include trips taken by council officers travelling from one of its offices to another and by consultants working for the authority, which is the city's biggest employer with about 15,000 …
