A NORTHUMBERLAND MP has voiced concern at proposals to close a rural magistrates' court.
The government last week spelled out plans to close up to 157 courts across England and Wales, in a bid to save pounds 15.3m a year as well as pounds 21.5m in outstanding maintenance work on the properties.
Among those proposed to be closed is Alnwick Magistrates Court.
Sir Alan Beith, Liberal Democrat MP for Berwick and chairman of the House of Commons Justice Committee, has set out his fears at the proposal.
