The ministers of water in the nine Nile basin countries have approved the proposal for Egypt's Dr. Wael Khairy to replace Henriette Ndombe of DR Congo as executive director of the Nile Basin Initiative.
Khairy, who will start work in September, was approved during the annual meeting of the Nile Council of Ministers at Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia over the weekend.
The two-day meeting was called to review the progress of the initiative's activities and approve the workplan and budget for the fiscal year 2010/2011.
Khairy becomes the fifth executive director of the organisation.
