NHK is coming under growing pressure to cancel its broadcast of the upcoming sumo tournament as irate viewers vent their fury over the gambling scandal enveloping the sport.
The public broadcaster, which has been showing sumo for nearly six decades, had received about 1,100 complaints from the public as of Monday night, with some calling for NHK not to air the Nagoya basho that is scheduled to start July 11.
