RUSTENBURG--So after a couple of first-round wins that sent Japan into the second round for the first time on foreign soil, where does Takeshi Okada's stand among Japanese fans? One banner draped at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium said it best:

"God. Buddha. Okada."

After last week's victory over Cameroon and a narrow defeat to the Netherlands, many had given Japan a fair chance to either draw or beat Denmark to go through to the round of 16 from Group E.

But few--if any--could have predicted Okada's side turning up the juice the way it did on Thursday night, producing one of its best performances ever in a 3-1 win against Denmark sparked by …
