Combining local culture, ebooks, and a close partnership between libraries and publishers in British Columbia (BC), the BC Books Online project (www.bcbooksonline.ca) is opening up access to some 650 locally focused ebooks. They are now freely available to users of 11 libraries as part of a beta program that could eventually extend to citizens, students, and scholars throughout the province.

The project focuses on local BC issues like history, Aboriginal culture, political commentary, and environmental concerns, featuring nonfiction from local publishers and authors who have agreed to donate access to the books during the one-year beta period.
