The NCAA has chosen Mark Emmert, president of the University of Washington, as its next chief executive.

He will begin his five-year contract on November 1. As the second university president to lead the NCAA, he follows former Indiana University President Myles Brand, who led the NCAA from 2003 until his death last fall.
