POLICE are warning businesses about a fake magazine scam.

Durham Police have received six reports from business in County Durham who have been contacted by a man claiming to be from the force and asking if they want to book an advert in a new police magazine.

On the most recent occasion the caller claimed the force was producing a quarterly newsletter with distribution figures of 48,000 and targeting specific businesses such as hers with a "self-help" page.

He persuaded her to take out an advert and said she could have a discount of 10% if she paid over the phone with a bank card and somebody would call her back …
