Energy Budget to Be Cut By Sh216 Billion.

The government plans to cut energy spending by a third in the next financial year.According to the national budget framework paper for 2010 to 2015, the energy sector has been allocated sh482.5b, from sh698.9b. This is sh216.4b less.

"The reduction is because no funds have been allocated to the energy investment fund and the Mputa inter-connection power project," the document stated.

"This is a critical omission, especially given the developments at the Karuma power project."
