from BERNAMA, The Malaysian National News Agency MELAKA, May 31 (Bernama) -- The RM305 million prison complex in Sungai Udang here will be classified as a special prison under the prison classification system implemented nationwide.

Prisons Director-General Datuk Wira Zulkifli Omar said the prison, which could cater to 3,000 inmates, started operations on May 19 with 130 prisoners transferred from the Henry Gurney School in Bandar Hilir, here.

"We are categorising inmates based on their offences," he told reporters after launching a reading campaign organised by the Prisons Department and National Library at the Henry Gurney School today.
