DRIVERS are being warned to watch their loads after a motorist was fined for overloading his van.

James Hanlon was hit with a pounds 372 fine after pleading guilty to driving a vehicle that was dangerously overloaded.

The 56-year-old admitted the charge when he appeared at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on May 26.

Hanlon had been driving what is known as a 'flatbed goods vehicle' along the A19 at Wellfield in East Durham. He was stopped by Durham County Council's Trading Standards officers who were carrying out routine checks.
