China's support for euro sparks Asian markets rally

HONG KONG

China's rebuttal of claims it was reviewing its eurozone debt holdings prompted a rally in Asian markets yesterday, lifting hopes that Europe's debt crisis will not spread.

The gains extended from the previous two days after several weeks of losses and returned some confidence to the market, although a jump in the euro late Thursday was pared back by profit-taking in Asia.

Tokyo jumped 1.28 per cent to close at 9,762.98 and Sydney was up 1.79 per cent to end at 4,457.5.
