Private equity hits the buffers--or does it?(From the Editor)

I am still closely following the fate of private equity funding through the recession, as I remain convinced that this sector, perhaps more than any other, requires the skills and experience of business information researchers. A detailed discussion can be found in "Researching Private Equity," Business Information Alert, vol. 20, no. 10, p. 1 (November/December 2008).

So imagine my dismay (and surprise) when I came across the following paragraph in a Financial Times (FT) article about Guy Hands, one of the most colourful of private equity entrepreneurs, and his deepening problems with his leveraged buyout acquisition of EMI in 2007:
