Fresh bids have been invited for the design of Kenya's second railway line.

Kenya Railways Corporation also said studies on the environmental and social impact would be carried out.

The first attempt to get a firm, for what has been billed as Kenya's largest infrastructure project, failed because the amounts quoted exceeded the budget.

Managing director Nduva Muli announced the tender had been cancelled two weeks ago after it had been awarded to Italian firm Italferr.

Mr Muli has said the cancellation was legal but it has been impossible to reach him since calls to his phone went unanswered.
