Section: Business News - The Commerce Ministry has outlined plans to promote the trade of organic products in order to catch up with the global trend and increase export income by at least 10% a year, the Bangkok Post reports.
The plan, in line with the ministry's strategic policy, aims at increasing the manufacture and trade of environment-friendly and healthy products, both food and non-food organic items, for domestic and overseas markets.
Pimpaphan Charnsilp, the ministry's deputy permanent secretary, said the export value of organic products had risen markedly to 3.5 billion baht in 2009, from 3.2 billion the year before.
