It's the role of Sister Aloysius, a strict and demanding conservative nun who is the principal of a Catholic school in the Bronx in the early 1960s. She comes to believe that the new and more progressive parish priest may have been involved in some inappropriate behavior with one of the young boys in school.
And Sister Aloysius doesn't give up on her beliefs easily.
