THE BANGKO SENTRAL NG PILIPINAS EXPECTS the country to post an even higher surplus on transactions with other countries this year as the financial situation worldwide continues to improve.

BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. yesterday said that the balance of payments in 2010 could reach a surplus of $3.7 billionhalf a billion more than the $3.2 billion earlier projected.

The [updated] projections are indicative of a stronger external payments position, more capable of withstanding possible headwinds to domestic and global economic growth in the period ahead, Tetangco said.
