Smaller firms emit 12.6% of total greenhouse gases

Small and midsize companies accounted for about 12.6 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions in fiscal 2007, according to a government white paper released Tuesday.

For the first time, the government closely analyzed the greenhouse gas emissions of small and midsize companies to encourage them to implement measures to help the government achieve its target of reducing emissions by 25 percent from 1990 levels by 2020.
