Subway cell-phone users may get 'one-seg' TV

A new one-segment TV broadcasting station is expected to enable subway users to view news programs at stations and on trains, it has been learned. The service, which also will offer information on events and emergencies, will be the first of its kind in the nation.

The Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry is considering allotting frequencies to a Tokyo advertising company that plans to start a one-segment TV broadcasting station that can be accessed by subway passengers while underground, according to sources.
