Cafe on the Beach may not be run by locals much longer.

The Bradenton residents sip drinks, listen to live music and soak in the sunset at the laid-back beachside restaurant that has low prices and is far more barefoot than button-down.

But if Manatee County changes the management of the cafe and souvenir shop at Manatee Public Beach, as has been proposed, "you might not see us here anymore," Buckle said.

Two local people have operated the cafe for 18 years, but a county committee recently recommended awarding the contract to a Tampa firm.
