Section: General News - The National Telecommunications Commission wants to step in to supervise the satelliteTV sector, The Nation reports.

NTC member Pana Thongmeeakom on April 12 said the board would assign the subcommittee supervising community radio and the cableTV sector to supervise satelliteTV operators and draw up a plan to issue temporary licences to them.

The previous NTC board interpreted that the 2008 Broadcasting Act empowers the watchdog to temporarily supervise only the community radio and cableTV sectors. But Pana, one of the four newly appointed commissioners, believes the law authorises the NTC to supervise the satelliteTV sector, too.
