An overview of Spain's chemical industry in 2008 is presented. The sector comprised 3508 companies, of which 30% were located in Cataluna, 14% in the Valencian region, 12% in Madrid and 11% in Andalucia. Chemicals production in Spain in 2008 was valued at EUR 42,145 M. By sector, basic chemicals accounted for 39.0% of production, followed by pharmaceuticals (24.1%), cosmetics and personal care products (14.8%), coatings (9.6%) and pesticides (1.7%).
