from BERNAMA, The Malaysian National News Agency BEIJING, March 31 (Bernama) -- The current drought in south-western China had limited impact on its grain production and food security, Chinese Vice- Minister of Water Resources Liu Ning said today.

He said, of the 344 million acres of farmland, only 260 million acres were used to cultivate grain, accounting for 16 per cent of the total grain producing farmland in China.

However, Liu, who is also state flood control and drought relief headquarters secretary-general, is quite perturbed over the drought phenomenon in some parts of northern China where the country's main grain producing region was situated.
