A couple in Kawempe, a Kampala suburb, had their baby born in a Police cell following their arrest over domestic violence.

Ponsiano Ndugwa and Sylvia Nakasiga had been detained at Kawempe Police Station for allegedly torturing a six-year-old boy. Nakasiga is a stepmother to the victim.

She is said to have received labour pains at around 1:00am on Sunday night and delivered a baby girl a few minutes later.

The station officer in charge of criminal investigation, Paul Mugisha, is said to have learnt of Nakasiga's presence in the cells when he was called for the emergency.
