Kasubi Tombs, Buganda's royal burial grounds, were reduced to ash on Tuesday. Records show that there have been similar fires in Buganda's history such as the one that sealed the Uganda martyrs fate.
IN Buganda culture, fire signifies life. One of the symbols used to show the world that the kingdom has a reigning monarch is a special fire called Gombolola, which is kept burning 24 hours in the compound of the kabaka's official palace.
