Walmart, the biggest seller of DVDs in the country, is making sure it's not left behind as more consumers rent or buy movies digitally.

The retail giant announced Monday that it has acquired streaming video service Vudu for an undisclosed price.

Vudu, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based venture that launched three years ago as a maker of set-top boxes that enabled paying subscribers to download movies using an Internet connection, has since evolved into integrating its software directly into Web-connected TVs and Blu-ray players.
