As dusk fell the air seemed to turn blue with cold.

The final shards of light glittered on the snow-capped mountains across the lake and as the sun disappeared over the horizon for a few moments the water was bathed in a golden glow.

It was an almost magical scene, so breathtakingly beautiful that we didn't notice the icy cold numbing our fingers and toes.

"It's amazing," said my friend (not for the first time during the weekend), her breath visible in the crisp evening air. And she was right.
