As dusk fell the air seemed to turn blue with cold.
The final shards of light glittered on the snow-capped mountains across the lake and as the sun disappeared over the horizon for a few moments the water was bathed in a golden glow.
It was an almost magical scene, so breathtakingly beautiful that we didn't notice the icy cold numbing our fingers and toes.
