Veteran services chief is leaving.

Jim Barrett is going to miss the stories.

Every week, veterans scarred by war wait to speak to Barrett, hoping he will be the voice in their fight for entitled benefits.

Many break down in that tiny office, tucked away in the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, revealing experiences family and friends never knew existed.

Barrett, who walked into the Charlotte County Veterans Services building 12 years ago seeking information on his own claims and was subsequently offered a job, is calling it quits as manager of the agency.

The 51-year-old will resign March 26 to take a spot with the FBI in Washington, …
