KUALA LUMPUR: A former prime minister, an astronaut and a Malaysian-born Hollywood actress may all be the new faces of reading for Malaysians.

The Information, Communications and Culture Ministry will invite the country's icons like Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha and Datuk Michelle Yeoh in its campaign to promote reading as a Malaysian culture.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, who said this yesterday, noted that Dr Mahathir had always been associated with the "Mari Membaca" programme that was initiated by the government in 1995.
