CSIA appeals for controlling soda ash capacity.

The China Soda Industry Association (CSIA) reports that some large soda ash producers in the country recorded losses of more than RMB Yuan 10 M in 2009, with some smaller producers having losses of over RMB Yuan 1 M. Although the adverse impacts of the financial crisis are disappearing, those caused by overcapacity remain a significant problem. Chinese capacity for soda ash reached 24 M tonne/y in 2009, although production totalled 20 M tonnes as a result of 4 M tonne/y of capacity being idled. Chinese demand for soda ash in 2009 is estimated to have been about 17 M tonnes, with exports being less than 3 M tonnes. In 2010, demand is forecast …
