The first day of the 45th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair drew many more visitors than expected, since it was judgement day in ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra's assets-seizure case.
About 4,000 pre-registered traders were expected at the event, but in fact more than 6,000 registered.
Vichai Assarasakorn, president of the Thai Gems and Jewellery Traders Association, said that although some traders were concerned about the political situation, it appeared to have little effect on the number of visitors.
