Thailand: Govt to buy rice from farmers to solve price fall.

Section: General News - The National Rice Policy Committee has resolved to buy rice paddy directly from farmers beginning tomorrow, in the hope to fix the falling price problem.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr Trairong Suwankiri, announced that purchasing points will be arranged in various provinces. In the central provinces of Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Suphan Buri, and Ayutthaya, the 28% paddy rice will be bought at 7,900 THB per ton while the 25% paddy will be bought at 8,403 THB per ton. The government has set an initial purchasing quota at 290,000 tons but will accept more if necessary. Farmers are required …
