So Dr Cornel Fleming thinks that I am suffering from short-term memory loss does he? (GP, 12 February).

I think perhaps we should start by testing Dr. Fleming's memory with a few questions. First: 'Which government gave GPs a 30 per cent pay rise?' Second: 'Which government removed from GPs the burden of out-of-hours care?'

Perhaps Dr Cornel belongs to a generation of dedicated and self-sacrificing GPs and believes that the increase in GPs' pay was an outrageous waste of taxpayers' money and that we should all do our own night calls?

As for out-of-hours, the Tories said they will hand that back to GPs; presumably refunding the pounds 6,000 that was …
