Flu director steps down as pandemic fears ease off.

England's director of flu resil-ience is to step down from his role, as swine flu cases remain at their lowest level since the disease appeared in the UK.

Ian Dalton returned to his role as chief executive of NHS North East earlier this month.

He will retire from his position as director of flu resilience at the end of March, a DoH spokesman said.

Mr Dalton originally took up the appointment in May last year.

He has been responsible for ensuring that all NHS organisations in England have robust plans in place to deal with the flu pandemic.
