US miner Southern Copper (SCC) has placed its copper output guidance for 2010 at 500,000 tonnes, up 3% from 485,376 tonnes in 2009. The 2009 production excludes any output from the idled Cananea mine in Mexico, which closed in Jul 2007 because of a workers' strike. Resuming operations at Cananea would require an estimated $50-60 M. The company did not give an estimate as to when it would be legally allowed to enter the mine.
