The area around the former Orgreave Coking Plant - which saw pitched battles during the 1984 miners' strike - will house a new community of 9,000 people and provide more than 7,000 jobs, landowner UK Coal claims.The plans for the site between Catcliffe, Treeton and Orgreave have now been forwarded for final approval to Communities Secretary John Denham.If he gives the green light the 740 acre plot - bigger than Sheffield city centre - will see work start in 2012 on 4,000 homes, two primary schools, parks, shops and cafes.The 15 members of Rotherham Council's planning board approved UK Coal's application 14 votes to one.
