Gastric bypass surgery improves life expectancy for most morbidly obese patients, the results of a study suggest.

Researchers used a computer model to evaluate the risks and benefits of gastric bypass surgery using data from over 400,000 patients.

They found that a 42-year-old woman with a BMI of 45 would gain three years of life following surgery. A 44-year-old man with the same BMI would live an additional 2.6 years. …
