JOHOR BARU: Johor ushered in a dawn of a new era with the proclamation of its new ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Known by the people as a modern royal with a heart of gold, the 51-year-old "Prince of the People" took an oath as stipulated under the State's Governing Laws 1895 (Undang-undang Tubuh Negeri).

"I, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, now ascend the throne as the Sultan of Johor," he pledged, adding that he would be a fair and just ruler.

The proclamation, which took place at 10.15am, was a sombre affair as he was still saddened by the passing of his father, Almutawakkil Al-Allah Sultan Iskandar ibni …
