Subscribers of IPTV services in Russia exceeded 1 million at the end of 2009, up 70 percent year-on-year according to ComNews Research. The strong growth came despite IPTV prices on average twice as high as cable TV services. The study looked at prices at more than 200 operators providing services in 16 cities in Russia. The price difference may be due to more interactive and HD services for IPTV, as well as a wider variety of channels.
