ULSTER Council officials are keeping their fingers crossed that the arctic conditions will relent to allow the Barrett Sports Lighting Dr McKenna Cup competition to get under way next weekend.

With today's programme of first round matches having fallen victim to the frost and snow, the Council acknowledges that any further postponements could cause chaos.

"We have already amended the McKenna Cup schedule and now it's a matter of keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that the weather improves. Obviously it's disappointing that there will be no action today but then all sports have been similarly hit this weekend," says Council spokesman …
