A Kind-hearted businessman who has helped with everything from The Deep to The Daisy Appeal has been made an MBE.

Philanthropist John Brignall, known as Jack, said he was "surprised and delighted" to be recognised for his services to the East Riding community.

Mr Brignall is chairman of Wykeland Group, a hugely successful property developers, which began in 1970.

Over the years, the firm has contributed to community projects, including a donation of tens of thousands of pounds to help build the new Hull Truck Theatre.

He is also a trustee at The Deep, Hull City's Football In The Community and The Daisy Appeal. The …
