Human rights groups in Morocco have warned that 29 Salafist jihadist detainees, who have gone on a hunger strike to demand better conditions, may die and described the treatment by prison authority as a grave violation of human rights, Al-Jazeera TV reported on 29 December.
In a letter to Moroccan Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi, 10 human rights groups said the detainees have launched a hunger strike as a form of protest after they lost hope in promises made by the authorities and hopes for any dialogue were dashed, according to Al-Jazeera TV.
