THERE could be separate funding mechanisms for potential gold medallists and the no-hopers under the 2010 Asian and Commonwealth Games programme.

The National Sports Council (NSC) will likely implement the idea as its budget for next year has been slashed by 14 per cent due to the current economic situation.

NSC director general Datuk Zolkples Embong said the potential gold medallists from the 535 athletes short listed under the programme will likely be given priority in terms of specialised training and exposure.
